LifeAMP sustaining

Doctors at the Fort Worth hospital had planned to remove Tinslee from life support Nov. 10 after invoking Texas’ “10-day rule,” which can be employed when a family disagrees with doctors who say life-sustaining treatment should be stopped. The law stipulates that if the hospital’s ethics committee agrees with doctors, treatment can be withdrawn after 10 days if a new provider can be found to take the patient.
Efforts to find another facility to take the girl have been unsuccessful. The hospital said it has reached out to more than 20 facilities.

Anyway

I came across the article about a baby on life support in Texas. Reading it brought back memories of a time that I was under a situationAMP as the parents of the baby in the article.

There is a difference; in the plight, the bottom line is the similarity is how a hospital handles life and deathAMP situations.

It was February 2010 when I received a call that my younger sister Michelle gravely ill and not expected to live. I didn’t live in the same state as her, so I had to make arrangements to travel to Alabama before it was too late.

Subsequently, I made it to the hospital, and I was surprised to see that she was alert. I was delighted to see her looking around the room at each one of us.

At that moment I saw life

However, thirty minutes after arriving, the hospital administration came into the room to speak with me about sending my sister home to die.

I was stunned by the bluntness of these peopleAMP. At the same time, I wonder what to do.

I decided that in the best interest of my nephew, it would be best for his mother not to be sent home to die.

After all, he had lived with her, while she was going downhill quickly.

So, I insisted that they let her remain right there in the hospital bed.
That said, the hospital relented, my sister remained there and passed away three days later.

Death is never an easy matter to deal with, especially when you are in a position of having to decide when to disconnect life support.

LIFE SUSTAINING

Tinslee Lewis… should be allowed to live for as long as God says, and not be removed from life support because the doctor says she is in pain and will not recover.

Miracles can happen!

About …Me, Myself and I

Essie Beaman

Well, I entered this world in 1955, I've journeyed through it, I've experienced loads of discomfort, taken a few tumbles, even had a butt-breaking incident, and encountered a TBI. In addition, I struggle with feelings of depression and anxiety. But hey, at least I can laugh about it all!
