The Vanity of Mind and the Blindness of Heart!

vanity of mind

The human mind can think and reason, which is why it remains one of the most powerful tools we have as human beings.

It allows us to understand other people, analyze situations, and make informed decisions.

Our minds are a source of strength and courage when dealing with problems because it helps us find solutions.

Itโ€™s also our hearts that give meaning to our existence as humans.

The human heart is where our emotions reside. Itโ€™s where love is found, fear lurks, and joy springs from. A good heart is kind and compassionate, while a bad one can be evil.

To keep your mind from becoming vain and your heart from growing blind, here are some insights into the vanity of mind and blindness of heart that you might find useful in your journey towards self-discovery.

The Vanity of Mind

The vanity of the mind is the tendency of the mind to be self-centered or focused on the self instead of others.

Itโ€™s not uncommon for human beings to be a little vain, but when that vanity grows to an unhealthy extent, it becomes a problem.

There are different types of vanity, and each manifests differently:

Narcissism โ€“ This form of vanity is often characterized as excessive admiration of oneโ€™s own physical or intellectual appearance or a strong desire to be recognized and admired.

Dandies โ€“ A dandy is a man who dresses to stand out and be noticed, often flamboyantly.

Dandies may be vain because they are more concerned with impressing other people with their appearance than with the quality of their clothing.

Hubris โ€“ This is often referred to as โ€œpride before a fallโ€ and is a form of arrogance and haughtiness that grows out of extreme self-confidence, especially in oneโ€™s ability to do something.

When hubris goes unchecked, it can lead to self-delusion, denial, and extreme narcissism.

The Blindness of Heart

The blindness of the heart is the inability to feel othersโ€™ emotions or the inability to be compassionate towards others.

It may stem from a traumatic childhood or a lack of exposure to the world and its diversity. Being heartless may make it easier to function in todayโ€™s society.

The constant bombardment of negative news and feelings makes it hard to be positive. Itโ€™s important not to fall into the blindness of the heart because when you close your heart, you become a lesser (or worst) version of yourself.

Bad things can happen if you donโ€™t learn to feel. You may hurt people without knowing it, and you might miss out on great opportunities in life.

Seeing What Is Not!

vanity of mind

Vanity is a chronic disease that affects the mind.

It’s when people project their thoughts and feelings onto someone else, not realizing what they see in front of them isn’t there – this can happen even though you spend time with somebody who only sees your reflection through eyes identical to yours!

Vanity grows its roots deep into our souls, so it becomes hard for anyone trying to fight against their desires sometimes…

The first step towards overcoming prideful traits like these would be taking stock: identifying exactly where such habits come From (specifical self-love) And then remembering

Hearing What is Not Said!

The way you observe your environment is through perception.ย

The things that are said aloud and those which remain silent carry different weights with them;ย

Some will be seen as polite, while others may seem rude or uninterestingly vague – but in reality, no one knows what the other person feels until they speak up!

ย This can lead many people down a wrong path where their vain thoughts come first before anything else…but it’s easy enough to fix if we stop long enough (and listen!)

Feeling What is Not Real!

The feeling that you can’t live without is when a person’s emotions are so focused on one specific thing they start craving it and feel like there would be no life whatsoever without this certain group or reading genre.

This may happen if your friends provide endless positive vibes from their everyday experiences to fuel the flames inside us all too soon!

Constantly Craving Attention and Approval!

If you find yourself constantly craving attention and approval, it could signify that your vanity has taken over.ย

This often shows up in teenagers who are trying to escape their “terrible two’s” stage byย

  • seeking out the praise of others orย
  • Being sensitive when they feel criticism is coming towards them, one way around this issue would take your mind away from such thoughts altogether.

Right now, the easiest thing any person could do may seem pretty simple: Stop thinking about other people judging us!ย

It’s completely irrational for anyone to care what another human thinks, so why spend time dwelling on negative outcomes?

Conclusion!

The vanity of mind and the blindness of heart go hand-in-hand. When one or both of these emotions are unchecked, it can lead to a life of self-delusion.

You may start to see what is not there, hear what is not said, feel what is not real, and crave attention and approval constantly.

When you become aware of these traits, you can easily correct them and become a better person in the process.

The Pastโ€ฆ10 Lessons to be Learned from History!

the past

The past is a world of its own. The centuries are filled with secrets, scandals, and stories that have been lost in the annals of time. Fortunately for us, some people are dedicated to unearthing these buried treasures.

History buffs and archaeologists dedicate their lives to unraveling the mysteries of yesteryear. These individuals understand that knowledge of the past is key to understanding our present and planning for our future.

There are many things we can learn from history. Here are ten life-changing lessons to be learned from history:

Don’t live by assumptions!

Assumptions are dangerous. If you rely on your assumptions, you will miss out on discovering the truth. This can lead to horrible consequences.

The truth on the surface often looks fine, but the more you dig into it, the more you realize how messed up it is, which is often ugly.

Still, it’s better than living a lie. It’s easy to fall into assumptions sometimes, but we must be vigilant about not letting them control our lives. Assume nothing; discover the truth for yourself.

However, we often can’t help making assumptions all the time, but sometimes they are incorrect. As a result, we miss important opportunities.

What’s more… don’t just trust your assumptions — challenge them, become curious, and keep an open mind.

Question the wealthy and powerful!

The past is filled with examples of the wealthy and powerful being exposed as frauds and liars. The ancient world was no different. Thereโ€™s a good chance that the wealthy and powerful individuals you know are lying to you.

They manipulate the media and use their wealth and power to deceive the public. The best way to prevent deception is to question everything you see and hear.

Be wary of consensus!

Throughout history, people have believed all kinds of wrong things. It is better to remain skeptical than to follow a consensus blindly.

It may seem that everyone around you has the same beliefs and opinions as you, but that doesnโ€™t mean their beliefs are true.

The best way to find out the truth is to do your research. There are so many different sources of information today that it is easy to find information that agrees with your views. The key to finding the truth is to look at all sides of an issue.

The Passโ€ฆNo society is perfect!

That society in which you live might seem perfect to you. However, there is a good chance that its imperfections are just being ignored.

For example, ancient Chinese society has often been praised for its tradition ofย Xiao, or filial piety, is an attitude of respect for parents and ancestors in societies.

But, An apparent waning ย is reflected in China , where officials in some localities have begun requiring contracts of support between elderly parents and their adult children.

Newlyweds in Chinaโ€™s Qindu district, for example, are now required to sign contracts to support their parents after age 60.

Anyway, the best way to identify these flaws and make improvements is to have an open mind and be willing to challenge your preconceived notions.

There is no such thing as progress!

A common misconception about history is that it is a steady march towards progress. There are often periods of regression.

It would be more accurate to describe history as a series of ebbs and flows. There are times when things improve and times when they get worse. There is no such thing as a steady progression towards a better future.

If you rely on progress to save you, you may be in for a rude awakening. It is better to focus on creating positive changes in the here and now.

Learn from cultures with more advanced technology!

the past
Contactless payment with smartwatch technology

It is easy to think that modern societies are superior to past ones. In reality, we have much to learn from the cultures with more advanced technology than we do.

For example, the people of Southeast Asia (particularly Thailand) have been using a form of psychological therapy called โ€œmindfulnessโ€ for centuries.

This type of therapy is only just being recognized in the West. If we want to make real progress, we must be open to learning from cultures with more advanced technology and knowledge than our own.

Confidence comes before the fall!

History is filled with examples of societies becoming overconfident and overreaching themselves. For example, the Roman Empire conquered many neighboring lands. As a result, the people of Rome began to think that they were invincible.

They believed that their power would never end. In 410 AD, the Roman Empire was invaded and sacked by barbarians. This marked the beginning of the end of Roman power. The fall of Rome has many lessons for us today.

We should be wary of becoming overconfident and arrogant. We should also be open to new ideas and be willing to change. If we are to set in our ways, it could spell our downfall.

the past
Peace

Stay alert during times of peace!

History has shown that the best time to prepare for war is during times of peace. During times of war, it is impossible to make large-scale changes and improvements. For example, the Mongols were a nomadic people in Central Asia.

They were very effective at raiding and pillaging towns and villages. In 1215 AD, the Mongols signed a treaty with the Chinese, promising to become their allies.

The Mongols became a powerful force for good in China. They built strong defenses and infrastructure that protected China from invaders for many years.

The point here is that even though times may seem peaceful, you must always be ready for war.

Take care of the environment!

The environment has been around since the beginning of time. It has remained largely the same until recently. Humans have been around for 200,000 years.

We have dramatically altered our environment in a very short amount of time. This is dangerous. If we donโ€™t learn from past mistakes, we could destroy ourselves just as many other species have been destroyed.

For example, the bubonic plague was a deadly pandemic that hit Europe in the 14th century. The plague was likely spread by fleas that lived off of rats.

During this time, people did not understand how diseases spread. They thought that the plague was a punishment from God.

This led to people being very unscientific and unhygienic. If we donโ€™t learn from the past, we could make the same mistakes.

Summing up!

Learning from history is a continuous process. We must never assume that we have learned everything there is to know. As more discoveries are made, our knowledge of the past will continue to grow and evolve.

The past is a world of its own. The centuries have gone by and are filled with secrets, scandals, and stories that have been lost in the annals of time.

Setbacks

A Setbackโ€ฆTurn In 2 Success!

Setbacks
The comeback is always stronger than the setback

A setback is a failure, an obstacle, something that knocks us back and keeps us from moving forward.

ย Also, setbacks can be extremely helpful for our growth and development as individuals if we choose to look at them accurately.ย

For instance, many successful people in history had various setbacks in life and career because they made them stronger and wiser.

ย Consider these examples:ย

  • Thomas Edisonย failed 10,000 times before he came up with the light bulb; In response to a question about his missteps, Edison once said, “I have not failed 10,000 timesโ€”I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”

  • Henry Fordย ย Optimism Ford’s path to building his car for the multitudes had many curves and hills, not to mention detours and dead ends.ย The Story of a Bold Dreamer.
  • In the early 1900s, “No man of money even imagined it as an option,” said Henry Ford about his lackluster initial reception from investors and banks when he tried selling them the new idea called automobiles…
  • Thomas Edison and others promoted the idea of electric cars, but Ford believed in the gas-powered internal combustion engine. And he failed twice before he finally started Ford Motor Company in 1903.
  • Walt Disneyย was fired from an advertising agency because he wasn’t creative enough; In 1919, Disney was fired from one of his first animation jobs at theย Kansas City Star newspaper; theย editor felt he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas,” according toย The Wisdom of Oz.
  • That wasn’t the last of his failures. Disney then acquiredย Laugh-O-Gram,ย an animation studio he later drove into bankruptcy. Finally, he decided to set his sights on a more profitable area: Hollywood.
  • Colonel Harland Sanders: in the early 1920s, he became the top salesman in Kentucky and was fired because of his temper.
  • Timeย magazine reportsย that he was fired from dozens more jobs before closing his first restaurant and going broke at age 65.ย
  • He was reportedly firedย from two separate railroad jobs, once for insubordination, the other forย fighting a colleague, and as a country lawyerย after assaulting his client.
  • It wasn’t until 1964, when Sanders was 74, that the Colonel had more than 600 franchised outlets for his chicken, and he sold his interest in the company for $2 million to a group of investors,ย according to Biography.com.
  • Oprah Winfrey: was fired from her evening news reporter gig with Baltimore’s WJZ-TV. A Baltimore TV producer reportedly told her she was “unfit for television news;” she got too emotionally invested in her stories.
  • As a consolation, he offered her a role on a daytime TV show and Peopleย Are Talking.
  • According to Biography.com, the show became a hit, and Winfrey stayed for eight years,ย according to Biography.com.
  • Winfrey eventually became the host ofย The Oprah Winfrey Show,ย which aired for 25 seasons. She’s currently worth an estimated $3 billion,ย according toย Forbes.

Although these experiences may have felt like failures at the time, they were setbacks that ultimately helped these individuals become stronger and more successful.

The Importance of Setbacks!

Delays are almost always considered negative experiences, especially when they are large or unexpected events.ย

However, if we look a little deeper, we’ll see that the importance of setbacks can be extremely significant.ย

For example, a setback can help youย

  • Develop self-awareness and self-confidence.ย
  • – Realize what does and does not work for you.ย
  • – Regain control of your life when it feels out of control.ย
  • – Learn from your mistakes.
  • ย – Become more resilient and flexible as an individual. – Grow as a person and become stronger.ย
  • – Find new opportunities that you otherwise never would have found.

How to Make the Most Out of Setbacks!

There are many ways to make the most out of the setback experience.ย

The first thing you need to do is to accept your setback as an inevitable part of life.ย

Even though this may sound a bit odd, especially if you’re currently experiencing a setback, it’s extremely important to realize that setbacks happen to everyone.

As you get used to setbacks, it becomes easier to accept and deal with them as they come.ย Another thing that you should do is to try to find a silver lining in your setback.

ย It would be extremely helpful for your mental health and helps to see the setback in a positive light, which can make it easier to deal with.

The Struggle Is Real…But So Is Hope!

Setbacks can be extremely tough, especially if they are large or unexpected events that completely change your life.ย

It can be incredibly hard to deal with the emotions that come with a setback, especially if it is something that you never saw coming.ย

For many people, the emotions that can come with a setback can almost feel like a dark cloud that hangs over your head and doesn’t let go.

ย It can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are completely submerged in sadness and despair.ย

However, it is extremely important to remember that the struggle you are experiencing is real, but so is hope.

How to Get Back Up When You’re Falling!

One of the most important things to remember if you are experiencing a setback is that failing is inevitable, but getting back up is optional.ย

As a matter of fact, it’s easy to tell yourself that you failed and that you will never be able to recover from that.

However, it is important to remember that every time you fail, you have the option to get back up again, and you can come out of the situation stronger than before.ย

Conclusion

Life always has the potential to throw us obstacles and setbacks.ย

There are many ways we can look at these events for growth, whether by using them as an opportunity or just getting back up after being knocked down once again!

Interracial Marriage: Richard & Mildred When Love Happens!

Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving Photo ban on interracial marriages

The Ban on interracial marriage.ย During the seventeenth and early eighteenth century;

the growing number of interracial marriages (also known as miscegenation) between Blacks and whites led to the passage of this new law.

The first anti-miscegenation lawenacted was in the colony of Maryland in 1664 and additional colonies quickly followed suit.

These marriages were prohibited and penalties included the enslavement, exile or imprisonment of the white perpetrators.

These laws grew and evolved over the years and attempts were even made to modify the Constitution to ban interracial marriage in all states.

It would take three hundred years for this law to be overturned.

In 1967, Richard Loving, a white man, and Mildred Jeter, a Black woman, were married in the District of Columbia.

Mildred and Richard Loving had been married just a few weeks when, in the early morning hours of July 11, 1958, Sheriff Garnett Brooks ;

and two deputies, acting on an anonymous tip that the Lovings were in violation of Virginia law, stormed into the couple’s bedroom.

When the sheriff demanded to know who Mildred was to Richard, she offered up the answer: “I’m his wife.”

When Richard gestured to the couple’s marriage certificate hanging on the wall, the sheriff coldly stated the document held no power in their locale.

Virginia law in fact forbade black and white citizens from marrying outside of the state and then returning to live within the state.ย

Richard ended up spending a night in jail, with the pregnant Mildred spending several more nights there. The couple eventually pleaded guilty to violating the Virginia law.

The commonwealth of Virginiaโ€ฆ

Asserted that its ban on interracial marriages were in place to avoid a host of resulting sociological ills, and that the law was not in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.ย

On June 12, 1967, the high court agreed unanimously in favor of the Lovings, striking down Virginia’s law.

And thus allowing the couple to return home while also ending the ban on interracial marriages in other states.

The court held that Virginiaโ€™s anti-miscegenation statute violated both the Equal Protection Clause and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.ย

Chief Justice Earl Warrenย wrote the opinion for the court, stating marriage is a basic civil right and to deny this right on a basis of race is โ€œdirectly subversive of the principle of equality;

At the heart of the Fourteenth Amendmentโ€ and deprives all citizens โ€œliberty without due process of law.โ€

Conclusion

The ban on interracial marriage was a law that reflected America’s history of racial discrimination.

Most states outlawed interracial marriage until the 1960s when the Supreme Court ruled them unconstitutional.

Further…I have littleย inclinationย to shake things up and find something new and exciting to bring into my otherwise boring world!ย

Creating New Experiences…

That said, I realize the only way to create new experiences and break my old routine is toย livenย up my life …is to leave myย comfort zone.ย

Here are a few ways to make things more interesting:Boredom

  • Go out with my friendsโ€”
  • ย Get out and about more – explore new places
  • Goย downtown DCย and walks around the cityย

Finally, I realize that taking risks is the only way to make life exciting. And the best thing about taking those kinds ofย chancesย is?ย

You never know what will happen!ย So go ahead – try something new today, or reconnect with an oldย favoriteย activity in hopes that it’ll bring some joy into your world…

That’s what I plan to do!

Thanking you for reading…
