Gun Control and Gun Rights…The Struggle2!

Gun control and gun rights
Handgun with rifle

Gun control and gun rights have always been contentious issues in America. People view it through different lenses and have different opinions on the best way to proceed.

For example, some people believe that everyone should be required to register their guns with the police to track down individuals who may be more threatening.

People are always looking for ways to make things easier, and there’s no exception when it comes down to whether or not you can bring your gun with you.

But some think that if an individual has a permit, they should be allowed to keep their weapon on-site at all times- whereas others believe this is too risky given how fraught situations could get.

So which side do you stand with? Are you one of those Americans who believes that we need stricter gun control laws or someone who believes that an armed society is a safer society?

Gun Rights vs. Gun Control

Gun rights and control is an argument that people have every time there’s a mass shooting

The solution?

Gun Control advocates say the solution lies in making it difficult for people to get their hands on guns, which would decrease these tragic incidents altogether;

But Pro-gun lobbyists counter, saying there isn’t enough data available yet proving this link between firearm availability and violence–and if we wait long enough, maybe our opinion will change!

All of this, of course, happens within the context of America. If you were to ask someone in Australia for their opinion on gun control, they’d likely give you a very different answer than someone in America would.

Why the need for gun control?

Let’s start by looking at why some people feel our country needs stricter gun control.

In some ways, it seems like you can’t go a day without hearing about someone who was shot or killed by a gun.

Whether it’s someone in a high-profile shooting or an everyday person, the numbers show that guns kill too many people.

In addition, when you look at where these shootings are most likely to occur, it’s easy to see why people think more gun control is needed.

For instance, according to a study published in the JAMA Network Open by Wharton Professor Dylan Small and School of Arts & Sciences undergraduates, most Black neighborhoods have higher gun homicide rates than mostly white neighborhoods of the same socioeconomic status level.

The rate of gun violence in America is staggering. Gun control and gun rights

Many people don’t realize how different areas can be depending on their racial makeup, and this new study shows exactly why!

The researchers found that middle-class neighborhoods with mostly black residents had four times as many homicides caused by firearms as those with white population densities.

Arguments For and Against Gun Control!

Let’s look at some of the arguments both sides make as to why we need more or less gun control.

Gun control and gun rights
Protect Kids

The first and most obvious argument for more gun control is that year after year, and guns are responsible for the deaths of many innocent people, including children.

According to a tracker from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 201 mass shootings in the U.S. this year.

It defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot or killed, excluding the shooter, and keeps a running list here.

At fault is the AR-15, which is designed to kill people quickly and in large numbers. Gun control advocates have categorized this rifle as an assault weapon because of the capability for mass killing, which they believe should be illegal among civilians, gun control advocates told NPR in 2018.

Another argument for more gun control is that people who don’t have a gun license shouldn’t be able to bring a gun anywhere they want, and people who do have a license don’t always follow the rules.

Pros of an Armed Society!

Gun ownership is a constitutionally protected right. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The Supreme Court reaffirmed Americans’ right to own guns — unrelated to military service.

Gun rights advocates maintain that regulations that make it harder to possess guns lawfully are unconstitutional.

While the vast majority of people who are responsible gun owners don’t kill anyone, some argue that there are times when having a gun would save lives rather than take them.

Gun control and gun rights Cons of an Armed Society!

 Gun control and gun rights
Violence

Now that we’ve looked at some of the pros of an armed society let’s look at some cons. In a perfect world, everyone would have access to guns.

Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world, and some of the most important people, like children and the elderly, would be dangerous to themselves and others if they had access to a gun.

 Guns don’t make society safer!

Gun violence is a serious public health issue that concerns the people it affects and our society.

The Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health has been researching ways to combat gub violence for years, and their scientists agree: Gun use makes America more dangerous.

Equally important, David Hemenway, an expert on the public health impact of gun violence and director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, polled 150 scientists for their opinions about guns and safety.

According to scientific evidence, most of the scientists polled said that having a gun in the home increases the risk of suicide

In like manner, scientists also agreed that a gun in the home increases the risk that a woman living in that home will be a victim of a homicide and that a gun in the home makes it a more dangerous place than a safer place.

Conclusion …Gun control and gun rights !

Now that we have looked at both sides of the gun rights vs. gun control debate, you should have a good idea of where you stand on the issue.

While the debate will likely rage on for years to come, there is one thing that we can all agree on.

No matter what side of the argument you fall on, we agree that keeping guns out of children’s, the mentally ill, and criminals’ hands is important.

The Future…In 5 Years Where Will You Be?

The future

The Future! We live in a world where we can’t predict how our lives will change five years from now, let alone fifty or one hundred!

The future

Right now, in this very instant – it feels brand new! The unknown and unknowable perspectives of the future.

That said ..recent history with all its modernities …there are still bits and pieces worth holding onto tightly and worth fighting for – even if there are by no means guarantees or certainties!

But, what will the next life-changing decade have in store for us? Will there always be sensational opportunities waiting just around every corner? Or could be teetering on the brink of adversity, or not!

The future…Make the Most of the Time You Have!

The future
Spring Time Change Background with alarm clock and flower branches
The future is uncertain and unpredictable. There’s no way to know what will happen ; so it’s important to make the most of the time you have now.

On the contrary, we don’t know when our time on Earth will end, so we should try our best to make a positive difference while we’re here.

We can do this by making healthy choices and helping others. We can also make the most of the time we have now by being grateful for what we have.

Live and breathe what you love!

Life will change and evolve as we get older, and we’ll probably have different jobs, interests, and even family.  For that reason, we can make the future better by devoting ourselves to things we love now and devoting our lives to things we love in the future. We can also make the future better by being grateful for what we have.

Don’t be afraid to try new things!

Help Others

Change is the only constant in life, and the future will be full of it. Meantime, we can enhance our lives by helping some one else.  Even if, helping others is difficult and even if that means taking on some risks or challenging tasks for them as well!

It can also be rewarding…

Be Grateful for what you have

We can make the future better by being grateful for all that’s before us- from what’s visible or tangible like money & material goods;

Things that may not seem important at first glances, such as relationships with people around you or family members.

Being thankful creates an impactful awareness within ourselves about how lucky we are.

Conclusion

The future is full of change, possibilities, and uncertainty. But, there are things we can do to make it better; by making the most of the time we have now, trying new things, and helping others.

We can also be grateful for what we have and make the most of what we have. The future is full of change, but these tips can be made better.

Songs That Make Me Feel Nostalgic Every Time 2!

Songs that hit me with a wave of nostalgia every time I hear them!  So I’m just going to put it out there: Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” is one of my favorite songs ever. Like, ever.

I could listen to it for hours and never get sick of it. If you haven’t heard it yet, you need to check it out – trust me, you won’t regret it.

Redbone is a soulful masterpiece that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Just make sure you have tissues handy because you’ll want to cry tears of happiness when the song is over.

The song is catchy, and the lyrics are on point. But what I love about it is how Gambino blends soul and funk to create a unique sound.

Seriously, listen to it.

Lyrics from the song

Lyrics

Daylight
I wake up feeling like you won't play right
I used to know, but now that shit don't feel right
It made me put away my pride So long.

Too late You wanna make it right, but now it's too late
My peanut butter chocolate cake with Kool-Aid
I'm trying not to waste my time...
If you want it, oh
You can have it, and you can have it
If you need it
You better believe in something
We can make it
If you want it
You can have it, aaaaah!

My peanut butter chocolate cake with Kool-Aid

And then there is…”When You Believe” by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Do you believe in miracles? For some people, the answer is a resounding “yes.”

But for others, the answer is a little more uncertain. No matter what your stance on miracles may be, there’s no denying that the power of belief is strong.

Listen….https://youtube/LKaXY4IdZ40

This song is all about harnessing the power of belief and conveys an important message to anyone struggling with the fear of failure

It’s about not giving up, even when you feel like quitting. It’s an empowering message that’ll make anyone want to keep going and never give in!

Especially when you are feeling doubtful or down, hopefully, this song will give you the boost you need to keep moving forward

https://youtu.be/LKaXY4IdZ40

Lyrics

Many nights we prayed

With no proof, anyone could hear

In our hearts a hopeful song

We barely understood

Now, we are not afraid

Although we know there’s much to fear

We were moving mountains

Long before we knew we could, ooh-oh, yes

There can be miracles

When you believe

Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill

Who knows what miracles you can achieve?

When you believe, somehow, you will

You will when you believe

Oh-oh-oh

Mmm, yeah

Conclusion:

Believe in the impossible, and you may be surprised at what you can achieve.

We all know there’s much to fear in this world, but don’t give up on your dreams – keep fighting for them because there can be miracles when you believe.

If all else fails, listen to Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” while eating peanut butter chocolate cake with Kool-Aid.

Do not waste your time…

What improbable goal are you going to start working towards today? Follow me, and let’s find out together.

If you don’t intend to spend your whole life as a person “hammered into a corner” but want to perform serious deeds, solve important tasks, and be able to achieve the real heights in life, then, first of all, you need to learn to believe in yourself.” Vanessa Angel, You Live the Life You Want to Live

Memorial Day…Remembering Our Fallen Heros’ …

  • Memorial DayMemorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have fallen and were wounded in battle.

It’s a time to come together as a nation, reflect on the sacrifices made by the military members, and express our gratitude for their service.

That said…I want to take a moment to remember all American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country on the Memorial Day!

Also, those killed in action will forever be remembered as selfless warriors who put their country before themselves.

There are some killed in action but were never identified, such as…

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: A Symbol of SacrificeMemorial Day

In 1920, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was established at Arlington National Cemetery. The tomb was created to honor the soldiers who had fought in World War I and lost their lives.

The remains of an unidentified soldier from the war were brought to the cemetery and buried there. Since then, the tomb has been a symbol of the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in the military.

Memorial Day A Symbol of Sacrifice!

Memorial DayThe Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located in Arlington National Cemetery, is a monument dedicated to the service members who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The tomb is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard.”

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier symbolizes the sacrifice made by every service member who has given their life for their country. It reminds us that we must never forget the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Before the 20th century

The numerous wars which have occurred over the centuries have created many MIAs. The list is long and includes most battles that any nation has ever fought.

The usual problems of identification caused by rapid decomposition were exacerbated by the fact that it was common practice to loot the remains of the dead for any valuables, e.g., personal items and clothing.

This made the already difficult task of identification even harder. The dead were routinely buried in mass graves, and scant official records were retained.

Notable examples include such medieval battles as Towton,[16] the Hundred Years’ War, The Battle of Alcácer Quibir where King Sebastian of Portugal disappeared, the later English Civil Wars, and Napoleonic Wars[17][18] together with any battle taking place until around the middle of the 19th century.

Starting around the time of the Crimean War, American Civil War, and Franco-Prussian War, it became more common to make formal efforts to identify individual soldiers.

However, since there was no formal system of ID tags at the time, this could be difficult during battlefield clearance.

There had been a notable shift in perceptions, e.g., where the remains of a soldier in Confederate uniform were recovered from the Gettysburg battlefield.

He would be interred in a single grave with a headstone that stated that he was an unknown Confederate soldier. This change in attitudes coincided with the Geneva Conventions, the first of which was signed in 1864.

Although the First Geneva Convention did not specifically address the issue of MIAs, the reasoning behind it (which specified the humane treatment of wounded enemy soldiers) was influential.

Little known History Facts…

Memorial Day

On Sept. 29, 1921, the War Department ordered the selection of an unknown soldier from those buried in France.

The U.S. Quartermaster Corps conducted the selection process by cooperating with the French and U.S. Navy.

Three weeks later, a Quartermaster Corps team excavated four bodies of (UNIDENTIFIED) Americans from each of four American cemeteries in France:

  1. Aisne-Maine,
  2. Meuse-Argonne,
  3. Somme,
  4. and St. Mihiel.

“Each man was examined to ensure that he was indeed an American. ”

For example,  an elaborate proceeding ensured that the soldiers selected would become truly anonymous soldiers, representing all the many other unknown soldiers who had previously been lost in battle.

And the reason for following the process used by all of the allies, was out of respect for those lost in war.

Likewise, the caskets arrived by truck at the city hall of Chalons-sur-Marne on Oct. 23, 1921, and presented to the French by local honor guard.

Not only…but also, Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger of Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 50th Infantry, American Forces in Germany was given the honors of selecting the soldier  on Oct. 26, 1921.

He walked around the caskets and then selected one.

What is more Sgt. Younger  was seriously wounded in battle. And He received the Distinguished Service Cross for bravery.

Conclusion

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have died in service to our country. It’s also a time for reflection on patriotism and what it means to be an American.

As we celebrate this Memorial Day, let us also remember the sacrifices made by our military families. Thank you… to all who have served and continue to serve our country. I’m eternally grateful for your bravery and selflessness.

I’m the Spouse of a retired Military Man and sister of three brother that served this country.

I’ve been around the military my entire life. It’s always been a part of who I am, and it’s something that I love. Even though my husband is retired now, the military is still a huge part of our lives.
