Freedom Of Speech: All Words Ain’t Free!

Freedomoofspeech

Freedom of speech is an absolute right, but there are many limits to what we can say and do. These come from the law in some countries like America where you’re free as long as your words don’t break any laws; or social norms (e..g., profanity) if not speaking appropriately around people who might be offended by it;

Plus, our conscience will tell us when something isn’t kosher enough for moral purposes even though it is technically within safe boundaries. That is if you have an ounce of dignity and respect!

Finally, we all have limits on what we are willing to say.

Hello…what are the limits of your freedom of speech?

Anyways…

The First Amendment!

The First Amendment to the American Constitution is a fundamental right that preserves freedom from government interference and protects religious practices without discrimination based on faith or lack thereof, inspiring countless individuals with different lifestyles in this great nation who have come together for peace through respect.

The Free Exercise Clause ensures no one practicing their religion will be treated unfairly because they’re doing what’s expected-but; more importantly, at its core are the establishment clause(prohibiting formal religions)and free expression paragraph, which prohibit both forms of bias within society.

It is one of the cornerstones of American democracy and has helped shape our nation into the tolerant and pluralistic society it is today.

Types of speech that are not protected…

Several types of speech are not protected under the First Amendment. These include obscenity, libel, slander, child pornography, fighting words, and true threats.

Obscenity is speech that is so offensive that it is deemed unfit for public consumption. This can include things like profanity, pornography, and hate speech.

Libel is a false and defamatory statement that is made about another person. This can be damaging to that person’s reputation.

Slander is a false and defamatory statement about another person orally. This can also be damaging to that person’s reputation.

Child pornography is any form of pornography that involves children. This is illegal in the United States.

Fighting words are words that are likely to incite violence. They are not protected under the First Amendment.

So, as you can see…freedom of speech does have limitations, you spineless trouble mongers.

When speech crosses the line into action…

We often speak of free speech as if it is an absolute right. But in reality, there are limits to what we can say and do without facing the consequences.

This is because speech is not just an abstract concept – it has the power to lead to real-world action. And when speech leads to action that results in harm, it is no longer protected by the law.

For example, hate speech is not protected under the law.

This is because hate speech often leads to discrimination and violence against marginalized groups. Similarly, the law does not protect against threats and incitement to violence. This is because they can lead to real harm and, in some cases, death. (Jan 6 Riot)

Listen, idiots….while free speech is important, we must also be mindful of the line between speech and action. When speech crosses that line, it is no longer protected and can lead to terminations and possibly criminal charges.

Here are a few other notable types of improper workplace e-mail that can lead to problems:

  •  Threats, harassment, and personal attacks directed toward co-workers, bosses, or others.
  •  False or defamatory information about anyone at work.
  •  Confidential and proprietary company information is being forwarded outside the company without proper authorization.

With the rise of social media, it’s easier than ever for people to share their opinions with the world. And while some may see this as a good thing, others worry that it could lead to violence.

So when does speech become action? It’s a difficult question to answer, but it’s one that we must grapple with in today’s world.

We need to be careful not to stifle free speech, but we also need to be aware of the consequences of our words!

Consequences for unprotected speech!

While the First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects citizens from government interference with their right to free speech, this does not mean that there are no consequences for unprotected speech.

Private citizens and entities are free to respond to speech as they see fit, which can result in negative consequences for the speaker, including but not limited to social ostracism, boycotts, and loss of employment.

Unprotected speech can also lead to civil or criminal liability if it meets the legal definition of defamation, incitement, or true threats.

Moreover, even if the speech does not meet the legal definition of one of these offenses, the speaker may still be subject to civil liability if they are sued for libel or slander.

In short, while the First Amendment protects citizens from government interference with their right to free speech, unprotected speech still has potential consequences.

Building a more civil society

In today’s society, it’s more important than ever to promote civility and respect. With the advent of social media, it’s become easy to bully and harass others without consequence.

This can lead to a feeling of powerlessness and isolation, which can, in turn, lead to further incivility.

It’s up to each of us to do our part in building a more civil society. We can start by setting a good example for others and by speaking out against behavior that is disrespectful or harmful.

We can also support organizations and programs that work to promote civility and respect. Together, we can create a more civil and respectful world for everyone.

In conclusion,

Freedom of speech is an important right, but it is not absolute. Many factors can limit an individual’s right to free speech, including the time, place, and manner of speech and the potential for harm.

When exercising your right to free speech, it is important to be aware of these limitations. Anyway…Like, follow, and comment on this article for more information on this topic.

Chronic Stress Effects: My Personal Story!

Chronic Stress
Angry and exasperated employee. Office worker smashing a table bat. Vector illustration

Chronic stress is a common response to the demands of modern life. Guess what? I learned the hard way what being overly stressed out is and what it can do to your life!

On the positive side…it manifests as stress symptoms such as:

  •  nervousness,
  • irritability,
  • muscle tension,

And so on — it revs up every part of the body and mind to keep you alive and alert.

In the same way, the negative effects of chronic stress build slowly over time, and it starts to limit your ability to enjoy simple pleasures in life or find inner peace until it’s too late.

But don’t despair! You can integrate effective practices into your life to help you manage chronic stress more effectively.

Check out my strategies to help you get unstuck.

Stress level reduced with problem and pressure solving tiny persons concept. Tired from frustration employee in job vector illustration. Angry tension in business lifestyle. Emotional overload scene.

At first glance…Take time to self-reflect!

As noted earlier, I learned the hard way what being overly stressed out is and what it can do to your life

Well, that is a long, drawn-out story which is another story together. However, I will give you a summary.

I worked at the FBI, and if you don’t know, the jobs are highly stressed daily. Particularly the programs dealing with informants.

That said, I was Program Manager for the S-Visa Program, a U.S. nonimmigrant visa that allows persons who witnesses or informants to assist law enforcement and provide information about a criminal organization in the U.S.

It is otherwise known as the “Snitch” visa. This visa is temporary and does not permit permanent living in the U.S.

Anyway, during my time with the FBI, I encountered many obstacles along the way;

The backlog of S-visa requests from the FBI and other Federal Law Enforcement Agencies at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Immigration Services was the biggest source of my stress and a huge obstacle that wasn’t easy to overcome.

Some I could get around; others were a constant source of stress that hijacked my coping ability and overwhelmed me.

I was suffering from chronic stress, which prompted the fall, causing a traumatic brain injury. (TBI)

So, what I am leading up to was my contact with a carpeted concrete floor in 2008. 😭

Subtle woman’s form in an unhappy pose double exposed with a monochromatic paint splatter photographic effect

One day, I passed out, hitting the back of my head. 🗣

See…I was unaware of being stressed out until it was much too late. It’s now 2022…14 years later, and I’m disabled mentally.

What’s more, I’m not crazy mentally; my brain doesn’t always function properly!

So the first step in managing your stress is to learn to “unsee”👁 your stress.

When you’re feeling stressed,😤Focus on what you’re doing.

Keep tabs on your mental “forest.” When you notice that your mind has wandered far off into the bushes, gently but firmly pull your attention back to the task.

It’s hard to do when you’re stressed because you don’t want to admit that you feel overwhelmed or you don’t want to admit that you’re struggling.

🆗…I know because it once was me!

Therefore, If you can take a step back, you’ll be surprised at how much better the situation🔥 will look when you are not stressed.🤯

Chronicstress

Equally important…exercise and daily mindfulness practices!

Moreover, I found a quick and easy way to quiet your mind and regain control over your attention?

  1. Take up a few low-key exercises — yoga, walking, breathing exercises, or something else that helps you quiet your mind.
  2. You need to take a break from the demands of work or school and acknowledge that you’re feeling stressed.
  3. Finding a few minutes to yourself every day to do some gentle, mind-quieting exercise is an easy, effective way to do this.

In the long run, it’s helpful if you’re stressed, over-tasked, and overwhelmed.

It may seem small, but it can be tremendously comforting and helpful to the stressed-out mind.

The next step …Don’t dwell on the past!

Chronic

But, at the same time, you might be thinking, how in the hell can you move forward when your past keeps invading your every thought?

How do you move away from demons that played a part in  your descent into the dark places of your mind?

To begin with, you must become keenly aware of your mind path, your pattern of thinking backward, into the dark abyss of past mistakes and misfortunes, which only compound the situation…making you more stressed and anxious.

To put it more simply…stressed-out minds are more focused on the got darn negative. So the more time you spend dwelling on the past, the more you feel stressed and anxious.

Reach for a relaxed state of mind by focusing on the present moment. Think happy thoughts.

The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”

William James

Simply put…

Stop thinking about the past and consider what you can do to move forward!

And be sure to…have a conversation with yourself!

The best way to deal with stress is by talking yourself down from the high horse with a sense of humor.

By the way, this will make you feel less stressed!

However, it’s not easy, but telling your brain that it needs a break will make you feel better in no time!

“Stress acts as an accelerator: it will push you either forward or backward, but you choose which direction.”

Chelsea Erieau

What Is Chronic Stress…Fight or Flight! What I experienced:⬇️

  • Namely, stress is the body’s reaction to harmful real or perceived situations.
  • A chemical reaction in your body allows you to act to prevent injury when you feel threatened.
  • The stress response reaction: is known as “fight-or-flight.”
  • During the stress response, your heart rate increases, breathing quickens, muscles tighten, and blood pressure rises.
  •  You are ready to act. It is how you protect yourself.

Now, some people are better able to handle stress than others. And, also not all stress is bad.

It comes down to…small doses of stress can help you accomplish tasks and prevent you from getting hurt.

Also, stress makes you slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of you. That’s a good thing.

Wrapping it up!Chronic

Chronic stress is almost inevitable if you’re a highly-pressured, high-performing individual in today’s modern world.

On the contrary, many people struggle with it, but it doesn’t have to be a barrier to your happiness and success.

It’s important to recognize that you’re feeling stressed, take a few moments to check-in and collect yourself, and then reach for a few low-key stress-reducing techniques.

These will help you regain control over your attention and get back to enjoying life.🌹

It took years to learn how to control the stress and not allow it to control me!

Mysteries Of The Mind:Is A Curious a Thing!

Mysteries of the mind do you ever wonder about how it works? How can we remember specific details from years ago but then forget

Do you ever wonder about the mysteries of the mind? How can we remember specific details from years ago but then forget what we were saying a moment ago?

The human mind is a curious thing, and it’s full of hidden mysteries waiting to be explored.

What do you think about when you’re not thinking about anything in particular? Do your thoughts ever take you on a journey to someplace strange and interesting?

Why can some people stay calm under pressure while others feel like they’re about to have a panic attack? There’s so much that we still don’t understand how our brains work.

My Brain Injury

Doctor with face mask
Doctor with face mask

My life changed when I passed out and hit my head on the floor in 2008. At first, I didn’t realize that something was wrong.

It wasn’t until two years, in 2010 later, that the symptoms began to surface, and I was diagnosed with – a traumatic brain injury caused by falling on my head during an episode of blacking out (fatally).

Since then, life has been different for me; nothing feels quite right anymore— I don’t feel like myself anymore…I developed a Jamaica accent and most other things about myself, like handwriting and speech patterns – basically, everything changed such as…

  • Personality changes
  • The processing and understanding of information changed. Simple things no longer made sense.
  • I suffered from social anxiety, irritability, anger, depression, feelings of overwhelm, general anxiety, mood swings, or emotional lability (teariness).
  • Stress seizures (my brain shuts me down if I become overly stressed.
  • Most of the time, I feel like a different person.
  • It is now 2022-very little has changed. So, I take it and deal with it.

Scientists are making progress every day, and they are learning more and more about the amazing things our minds are capable of.

Allen Institute for Brain Science

If you ask Christof Koch, Ph.D., Chief Scientist and President of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, how close we are to understanding our brains.

“We don’t even understand the brain of a worm,” Koch said.

The lab roundworm, more technically known as Caenorhabditis elegans, houses 302 neurons and 7,000 connections between those neurons in its tiny body.

Researchers have painstakingly mapped and described all those connections in recent years.

And we still don’t fully understand how they all work synergistically to give rise to the worm’s behaviors.

Humans have approximately 86 billion neurons in our brains, woven together by an estimated 100 trillion connections or synapses.

It’s a daunting task to understand how those cells work, let alone how they come together to make up our sensory systems, behavior, and consciousness.

What is the brain made of?

The brain consists mostly of gray matter and white matter, brain tissue and its interconnections or bundles of axons.

Look more closely at the former, and one can distinguish neurons and glia (the other kind of brain cell). But we’re far from understanding all the types of neurons and other brain cells at the level of what they do.

What will it mean to understand our brains?

When we think about understanding something, we often think about being able to explain it in a relatively simple way.

In science, researchers in other fields look to physics as a model of understanding, said Koch, a former physicist.

The physical world lends itself to abstractions that can be boiled down to (relatively) simple equations.

But what if biology doesn’t? The more Koch and others at the Allen Institute study the brain at a large-scale, looking at many or most cells in the brain rather than just a few, the more they realize that even the parts of neuroscience they thought the field had nailed down are more complicated than anyone had realized.

Conclusion:

So, there you have it. . A human mind is a fascinating place, and there are still plenty of mysteries waiting to be explored.

Let me know what you think.

Believe in

The Essence Of Yourself..Find It!

the essence of yourselfThe essence of yourself is very important. However, the human tendency to body shame or insult other people without cause is prevalent, but it’s never an appropriate way of thinking.

It is unfortunate…

People often hurt each other by commenting on their physical appearance;

This goes for both men and women alike!

You can never go wrong by doing this.

Regardless of who said it first, the best thing to do if someone has said something terrible, such as “you look fat,” is to apologize profusely.

What comes out of your mouth does not determine how deep those words go into them.

Body shaming and Insulting other people without cause is a terrible thing to do.

Each of us is just a human being.

We all have flaws, and we should all be treated with compassion, not criticism, no matter where we go!

By the same token, people need to be mindful, using it as a personal growth and development tool.

Also, mindfulness can help everyone live their best life now—not just those of us who have been practicing all along…

Being mindful is a technique.

That allows you to focus on the present moment without judgment.

Perhaps…

It was by accident, or maybe your search for happiness led you home – to mindfulness

By practicing this, we will learn to observe our thoughts and feelings instead of getting lost in them;

Not only will we learn what was good and bad about these moments, but we’ll realize what can happen during any day when we don’t dwell on the past.

Mindfulness is all about being present.

And while some people are born more mindful than others, it doesn’t take much effort to cultivate your sense of self-awareness and acceptance with these practices.

I found mindfulness accidentally when I was looking for ways to be happier;

But…

Now that I’ve started regularly practicing and being successful, there’s no turning back!

As a matter of fact… finding the essence of yourself is a fantastic way to focus on the present and not judge people.

In addition, the essence of mindfulness is simply observing without judgment or reaction.

The essence of yourself is to be mindful!

Over the years, I’ve learned that mindfulness meditation is one of many ways to connect with the soul.

Ultimately, everything in life comes down to you… what you say, do, or do not do impacts you sincerely.

Even if you follow every rule in the book, things may still go wrong.

The key is never to stop doing the right thing.

So what’s my point?

Remember, showing up late and imperfectly is better than not showing up at all.

Furthermore,

Keep in mind that avoiding complicated conversations keeps you comfortable; confronting them makes you grow!

Now, this is important in uncovering the essence of yourself…

  • With personal strengths comes the balance of personal weaknesses, which is necessary for mental stability.
  • In the absence of individual strengths or a purpose, mental strength can cause negative behaviors, including victimizing, being predictable, becoming lazy, and always looking for shortcuts.
  • Keeping an eye out for imbalances will help you adjust when it comes right down to it; behaviors and thoughts matter.

Last but not least, if you are confident and happy with yourself, you won’t feel the need to talk about other people’s bodies.

VANITY OF MIND AND BLINDNESS OF HEART 2!

Vanity… is a dirty word!

I want to preface by saying that I will not be offended if you stop reading this post.

That is because it is about people’s blindness, vanity, and mindlessness blinded by love or lust.

If that doesn’t interest you, then there’s no reason for you to continue reading.

But if it piques your interest, please read on…

In contrast… Songs about the blindness of the heart and the vanity of the mind are sung at weddings across the country.

It says, “Love is blind.” So when someone falls in love, they cannot see anything wrong with their partner, even though they might have apparent flaws (and sometimes deal breakers).

People think this happens only once in a lifetime, but I don’t see it this way.

Minds exist primarily for self-expression.

The mind’s vanity is a dangerous condition that can lead to corruption and decay.

This obsession with oneself leads us down a path where our thoughts, words, or deeds become nothing more than an expression of feelings with no purposeful intent behind them;

A sad disguised as wisdom!Vanity of mind

What are the results?

Focusing on what you’re going through instead – which will only make things worse over time since those emotions are only temporary.

The vanity of the mind…

Similarity… It means everything and nothing; It can be an end by itself, but it’s more often just private thoughts with no real purpose.

They don’t go anywhere because you’re thinking only of your emotions instead of what would make the best choice for others, too (hopefully).

Likewise… Corruption is frequently a byproduct of vanity, and history shows that one thing after another gets worse over time:

For example…

  •  As violence increases, crime rates also rise exponentially.
  • Trump is still president because people began believing conspiracy theories such as they rigged the 2020 election.
  • George Bush carried out 9/11 instead of Al Qaida-so why do we see no advances in the situation?
  • The mind exists primarily for its own sake.
  •

Vanity keeps a persons in favor of themselves who are out of favor with all others.

Shakespeare.

Be open to the truth… Don’t be blinded by love or controlled by vanity.

Vanity is a spiritual disease where we become self-absorbed in our appearance and abilities.

Many people believe one cannot be blind to the truth, but many facts exist.

In either case, the human mind can become so focused on its basic concepts that it refuses to see a different point of view.

In Conclusion:

The blindness of the heart and the vanity of the mind are the two most common ways to describe what it means to be blind.

I know that may sound like a strange thing, but these words have always stuck with me because they remind us all how important it is to see well and see clearly.

Seeing other people’s perspectives will allow you to understand them better. Now go out there and start seeing things!

Vanity keeps persons in favor of themselves who are out of favor with all others.
