News Media: The Death Of Good Journalism?

News media

The internet has brought about many changes in how we consume content. In the past, we would have to wait for the newspaper to be delivered to us to read the news. Today, we can instantly log on to our laptops or phones and get the latest news.

This convenience comes at a price, however.

The death of good journalism is one of the prices we have to pay for new media. With the rise of social media, anyone can be a news source.

While this gives us many options, it also means that we can’t be sure of the accuracy of the information we’re getting.

In addition, the bombardment of news and information can be overwhelming, and it’s often hard to tell what’s important. As a result, we may end up missing the most important news stories.

All of this is not to say that new media is all bad. But we should be aware of its shortcomings and be careful about the information we consume.

Moreover, I don’t particularly appreciate listening to or watching the news. Perhaps it is because some journalists, newspapers, magazines, and news media outlets have gone from good journalism toward spreading rumors and information that is fictional and not factual.

This is why, I question how people continue to believe what they see and read in the news when it has become increasingly clear that many news outlets are more interested in generating clicks and views than in reporting the truth.

The bottom line…It’s become difficult to know what to believe, and I, for one, am tired of feeling like I need to fact-check everything I see and hear constantly.

Nonetheless, I’m not sure where things will go from here, but I hope we can start to see a shift toward quality journalism that is fair, accurate, and truthful.

How new media is taking over

It’s no secret that the media has a lot of power. Nowadays, it seems like the media is everywhere, and it’s hard to escape its influence.

Whether we’re watching TV, browsing the internet, or reading the newspaper, we’re constantly being bombarded with messages from the media.

And it’s not just the content of the important messages – it’s also how they’re presented. The media has a way of making things seem more important than they are and manipulating our emotions.

As a result, we often believe things that aren’t true or feel things that we shouldn’t.

Them. We need to recognize the power of the media and be aware of how it shapes our perceptions and beliefs. We must ensure we get an accurate worldview and not just let the media dictate our understanding of events.

The rise of fake news

News media
Fake news headline on a newspaper

This is due to various factors, including the popularity of social media, the rise of fake news, and the diminishing attention span of the average person.

This decline has serious implications for our society. As the news media struggles, so does our democracy. With fewer outlets for accurate and unbiased news, we risk becoming a nation of misinformed citizens. This is a dangerous situation that could have major consequences for the future of our country.

The impact of all this on society

The internet has had a profound effect on society. It has connected us in ways we never thought possible and has given us access to a wealth of information. However, it has also contributed to several problems.

For example, the internet has made connecting with others who share extreme views easier. This has led to the rise of Hate groups and the normalization of bigotry.

Additionally, the internet has made it easier for people to engage in risky behaviors, such as online gambling, which can have devastating consequences.

While the internet has had some positive effects on society, it has also contributed to many negative outcomes. We must be careful to consider the implications of all this on society.

To wrap things up

It’s a wrap. The death of good journalism. The end of an era. A new beginning. Whatever you want to call it, it’s happening before our eyes.

And there’s nothing we can do to stop it. But we can slow it down. We can support the journalists who are still fighting the good fight.

We can comment, follow, like and share their work. We can be the change we want to see in this world…

And that’s it.

That’s the end of good journalism. Thank you for reading, commenting, following, liking, and sharing is much appreciated.

Filicide: The Murder of a Child by a Parent!

Filicide
Children enjoying with ice cream

Filicide – is a horrifying crime that, sadly, happens more often than we’d like to think; a crime that often shocks and horrifies the public when a parent kills their child.

In fact, there is no greater tragedy or act of unimaginable desperation and despair.

Furthermore, in the United States, filicide – the murder of a child by a parent – occurs an average of 500 times per year.

And while the motivations for such a heinous act are often complex and nuanced, the outcome is always heartbreaking.

The loss of innocence and trust for the child. For the parent, it descends into a hellish abyss of guilt, regret, or nothing.

In this blog post, I’ll explore the motivations behind filicide.

A Brief Introduction Who Commits Filicide?

While this heinous act can be motivated by many factors, ranging from greed to mental illness, one thing is always clear: The child was innocent, and their death was preventable.

That said, in the United States, filicide is the leading cause of death for children 1-5 years old.

To this end, an estimated 1,500 children are killed by their parents yearly.

While it’s a crime that cuts across all demographics, some common risk factors may contribute to a parent becoming capable of murder

Why do parents kill their children?

While it’s impossible to know exactly why a parent would kill their child, there are some possible explanations.

Filicide is not an uncommon calamity; a study supported by the National Institute of Health found that about 15% of homicide arrests over 32 years were filicidal.

However, research studies have identified five motivations of adults who murder children.

  •  The parent kills the child because they may perceive it to be in the child’s best interest. It may be reality-based (e.g., the child suffers from a terminal illness.
  • The parent kills the child based on ideas, not based on reality. For example, the parent believes the devil has possessed the child.
  • Unwanted child: The parent kills the child they consider a hindrance.
  • Accidental: The child’s death is an unintentional outcome of parental physical abuse.
  • Spousal revenge: The parent kills the child to get revenge on the spouse or partner.

Cocaine and Fentanyl…The Deadly Mix!

Cocaine and FentanylCocaine and Fentanyl are a dangerous mix. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is up to 100 times more potent than morphine.

It is often used to cut or lace other drugs, like cocaine because it is cheap and easy to obtain. This is a deadly combination because it is hard to know how much Fentanyl is in the cocaine, and it only takes a very small amount to cause an overdose.

One year since my younger brother was found dead behind a building in Huntsville, Alabama, on May 11, 2021. His body lay there for three days before anybody found him.

Today, May 12, 2022, marks one year since the task of planning a memorial service for my brother fell to me.

Yesterday

We were shocked, and we are still shocked today! According to his toxicology report, his death was caused by Fentanyl and cocaine.

I’ll tell you…We couldn’t have an open casket because his body wasn’t “fit” for viewing after being outside in the heat of Alabama for so long… he was cremated instead.

My heart broke looking at the photo of his body lying on the table in the coroners’ office. Realized that I couldn’t believe what I was looking at.

That said, I don’t have to wonder where he at. See, he is in my home today, sitting on top of a table that constantly reminds me of where I can find him.

My brother’s death… is one of those moments when you think this couldn’t happen in my family.

A year on…

I am still trying to figure out why my brother engaged in such a deadly mix. Could he have known what the drugs contained? No!

Dealers who sell Fentanyl may mix it with heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and MDMA.

Fentanyl is a cheaper option because it only requires a small amount to produce a high. People who take drugs might not realize they might contain Fentanyl as a cheap but dangerous additive.

CDC statistics

Show that opioid overdose deaths have increased in three waves.

  1. The first wave began with increased prescribing of opioids in the 1990s, with overdose deaths involving prescription opioids (natural and semi-synthetic opioids and methadone) increasing since at least 1999.
  2. The second wave began in 2010, with rapid increases in overdose deaths involving heroin
  3. The third wave began in 2013, with significant increases in overdose deaths involving synthetic opioids, particularly those involving illicitly manufactured Fentanyl
  4. The market for illicitly manufactured Fentanyl continues to change, and it can be found in combination with heroin, counterfeit pills, and cocaine.

CHARLES B…ANGEL IN HEAVEN!

Anger, Strife, And Anxiety Today Can Be A Challenge

Anger

Anger…Even with so much suffering and conflict, it might seem like the world has no joy to offer; there is hope for happiness.

Be that as it may, when you are so focused on the negative things happening in your own life, when things are called into question and the potential unavoidable casualty that may arise at any moment, you can deter your capability to feel joy.

However, joy is what provides life’s perception and meaning. If you want to become a better version of yourself, take the time to cultivate your happiness.

Today, I’d like to share simple ways to create time to experience more joy in your life.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff; things happen
  2. Choose your battles to fight, what is most important to you.
  3. Think before you speak. It is not necessary to react straight away.
  4. Take a deep breath in a stressful situation, then walk away if necessary.
  5. Idiots are going to be just that…don’t waste your time and brain cells trying to turn on the light switch in hers/his brain. And showing anger.
  6. Most importantly, Be Who You Are. God broke the mold, so there is no one else like you.
  7. One of the best ways to be happy and enjoy life is to surround yourself with POSITIVITY. Think positive! Be positive!
  8. Forget having a PITY PARTY. Find ways to solve whatever is bugging you.
  9. Pray…asking God to guide you.
  10. Follow GOOD ADVICE. After all, you don’t know everything. If you want to become a better version of yourself, take the time to cultivate your happiness.Read More

LOOKING BACK NOW I WANT YOU TO KNOWN

Looking back now

Looking back now I want you to knowMy brother, Charles was a known smooth talker… he could say all the right things at the right time. Even when a situation was not in his favor, his uncanny ability with words turned an unfavorable situation into an advantage by the end of the conversation. He was charming and possessed all the people skills and then some. He could talk his way out of or into anything he wanted.

What I miss about Charles…

He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He loved his daughters and sons to the moon and back.

He could sing like a professional.

 No More Tears to Cry…

He departed his earthly life on May 11, 2021, in Huntsville, Alabama

his death was sudden and unexpected.

What I want you to Know…

When tomorrow starts without me,

And I’m not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

and each time that you think of me,

I know you’ll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above,

And that I’d have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,

A tear fell from my eye

For all my life, I’d always thought,

I didn’t want to die.

I had so much to live for,

So much left yet to do,

It seemed almost impossible,

That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays

The good ones and the bad,

I thought of all the love we shared,

and all the fun we had.

If I could re-live yesterday

Just even for a while,

I’d say good-bye and kiss you

And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,

That this could never be,

For emptiness and memories,

would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,

I might miss come tomorrow,

I thought of you, and when I did,

My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven’s gates,

I felt so much at home

When God looked down and smiled at me,

From His great golden throne.

He said, “This is eternity,

And all I’ve promised you.”

Today your life on earth is past,

But here life starts anew

I promise no tomorrow,

But today will always last,

And since each day’s the same way

There’s no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,

So trusting and so true.

Though there were times

You did some things

You knew you shouldn’t do.

But you have been forgiven

And now, at last, you’re free.

So won’t you come and take my hand

And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don’t think we’re far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I’m right here, in your heart.
